Flutterby Music Piano Lessons

Beginner lessons for children (from age 6) and adults.

Fun and relaxed piano lessons take place at my home in Lordswood, Chatham. After-school slots on a THURSDAY and slots on a SATURDAY morning will be available from SEPTEMBER. Afternoon school hours slots may be available now for adults and home-schooled children - please enquire!

I specialise in beginners from age 6 upwards, using a variety of resources and materials, including games and singing, to imbed musicality and transfer this onto the piano. I also use a brilliant method called Piano Safari which teaches good technique, musicality through rote teaching (copying the teacher to learn a piece by memory), logical note-reading and improvisation. However, I would also encourage new starters to join my group musicality classes, which will help to make the fundamentals of music (such as pulse, rhythm and pitch) second nature, and leave more time in lessons to focus on technique, learning repertoire and developing playing skills.

It’s never too late to start learning an instrument! For adults, we can go at your pace and have fun in the process. Lessons will also develop general musicality and as I strongly believe in my Kodaly-trained background, I will gently encourage us to sing together what we are trying to play! (But don’t worry, there will be no-one else listening!). I also have a ‘silent’ piano, so if you are very nervous to begin with, we can always wear our headphones!

I am a member of The Curious Piano Teachers, and have also attended a piano teachers’ course with Sally Cuthcurt and Ilga Pitkevica. I have previously taught piano at Kings, Rochester.

Lessons range are between 30 mins and 1 hour - depending on the pupil and what is best for them. Lessons cost £30 per hour, or part thereof. Lessons are paid for in advance by the half term and I’m afraid that missed lessons cannot be refunded.
